Beautiful Smiles with Porcelain Veneers in Vernon Hills

Y3oR35QVZl-rnq_ycsW6f9eT24ipr0Eb2P4D3RxFRHEDental veneers have been used for more than thirty years. Originally, veneers were fabricated from thin plastic sheaths. Shaped, shaded, and sized to alter the appearance of the tooth, a veneer is bonded to the front surface, covering an unattractive flaw. Since the early days of cosmetic dentistry, advances have improved the way that teeth are enhanced with veneers. In our Vernon Hills office, veneers are made from strong porcelain material that beautifully transforms the smile.

These very thin pieces of durable, tooth-shaped porcelain veneer are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions.

As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful long-lasting smile.

Reasons for porcelain veneers:

  • Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile.
  • Crooked teeth.
  • Misshapen teeth.
  • Severely discolored or stained teeth.
  • Teeth that are too small or large.
  • Unwanted or uneven spaces.
  • Worn or chipped teeth.

What does getting porcelain veneers involve?

Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process, with little or no anesthesia required during the procedure. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and Dr. Steven Hoffenberg, Dr. Quyen Dang, or Dr. Chu Lee.

On the second visit, the teeth will be cleaned with special liquids to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond.

You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing and flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new veneers.

What Porcelain Veneers can do

There are a number of situations for which porcelain veneers are an ideal solution. If you have a crack or a chip, a gap, or resistant discoloration, a veneer can disguise the flaw and let you feel confident about your smile. Veneers can be placed on any number of teeth necessary to achieve the desired outcome. They may lengthen teeth for an even smile line, and even give the appearance of straightness. View Drs. What to Expect

Because veneer treatment is permanent, we recognize the need for precision planning and expert performance. Treatment begins with a thorough discussion of your expectations and a full explanation of what is possible with veneers. In addition to the aesthetic outcome, it is important that you know how to care for your veneers so they remain resilient to the force of chewing and biting.

With good care, porcelain veneers can last several years. Though sheets of material are very thin, the bonding process builds strength within the treated tooth. At some point, veneer replacement may be necessary. This is simply due to normal wear. If you refrain from biting on hard objects and using teeth to hold or open items, your veneers will last much longer.

Like enamel, porcelain may gradually become stained from coffee, red wine, tea, or other powerful staining agents (at a much slower pace). Brushing and flossing your teeth as recommended, the risk of discoloration is much lower. Unlike enamel, porcelain cannot be whitened with bleach. For this reason, we may suggest teeth whitening before the placement of veneers to give you the brilliant smile you want.

You are only Two Visits Away from your Dream Smile

Your perfect smile is within reach! Covering imperfections with porcelain veneers takes only two visits.

  • After your consultation and decision to move forward with this treatment, we will prepare teeth for their new layer of beauty.
  • The thickness of veneers is similar to that of a fingernail. Slight reduction of enamel is necessary to achieve a flush fit between the veneer and the gums.
  • Impressions are taken to create a model of your teeth. This will be sent to the dental lab along with specification for size, shape, and shade.
  • Final veneers will be ready for placement in about ten days.
  • During your second visit, we will evaluate the appearance of veneers on your teeth before bonding them to enamel. If you are not fully satisfied, changes to veneers can be made.

When you are completely happy with the details of your new smile, we will bond veneers to your teeth.
